Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev secured his first trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just one win at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in particular - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the past month - peaking in a tightly fought competitive triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden title since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from spring of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 championships at 21 distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a title is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's retrieving approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to question if his capacity to play at the top level was over.

However the player has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the last five games to go ahead.

The competitors swapped breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional championship, took control to create a decider.

Moutet defended four early-game break points in a tight third set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to close out the victory.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a point at the net, with his opponent failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
