Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then found numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative commented the attack rendered him speechless and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
